Big Changes in the Wheaton-Collins Household

So....... we are getting married in 6 days! The whole wedding we had planned for next June just got to be too much. With everything else going on (thesis defense, graduation, job hunting, parents moving...) we decided to just go ahead and get married. So on Friday we will be getting married on the steps of Old Main with are parents and sibs present. Then on Saturday we will be having cake and punch at Devil's Den to celebrate with all of our friends and family.

Besides the whole wedding things here's what's been happening.......

I defended my thesis last week and it went REALLY well. YAY!!!!! That night we celebrated with friends at Patron's. I was so thankful that my work friends could be there to celebrate with me and that they got to get to know Jesse a little more.

Today was our IDC picnic and it turned into a surprise wedding shower! I was surprised!!! Thank you to all of my IDC family for your sweet generosity. Picnic day is always my favorite day of the semester, and this one was especially special. I am so sad that there are only 3 weeks left. :(

We have been really busy with everything that has been going on and with getting wedding stuff together.

Last night we dyed eggs and I baked bread and pie for lunch this afternoon. Today, Mom and Sara came over for lunch. Jesse grilled fish and chicken and I made bread, pie, mini quiches, asparagus, and salad. We had a really nice time. Then we went to see my grandparents for a few minutes, I tried on my wedding dress which resides in Mimi's closet and Jesse worked on her computer. I just received a phone call singing his praises :) I just finished cleaning up the kitchen and we are going to watch a movie.......hoping for a good laugh. Overall, it has been a truly lovely Easter.

Eggs we dyed last night.

Table cloth I made this morning and flowers from Farmer's Market.

We're Engaged!

On March 9th, 2010 Jesse and I got engaged. It was an ordinary Tuesday and we decided to go look at wedding invites. We ended up shopping in general, looking at all sorts of things and having lots of fun. Then we decided to get ice cream. As we sat waiting for our order, Jesse asked me if I would mind if he proposed before asking my dad. You see we had this master plan that he was going to ask my dad on the 18th and then surprise me sometime later. Well, right there we decided to call my dad and ask him. First, I called dad's cell..... no answer, office........no answer, finally I decided to call him at my grandma's house where we was at the time. As I was dialing Jesse told me that if I didn't get him this time, it must be a sign that we should stick to our original plan. So of course I am listening to ring after ring after ring thinking 'pick up the phone!!!!!!!' At last, my grandmother picked up. After what seemed like an eternity, I finally got dad on the phone. Jesse asked for his blessing and we ran to go tell my mom. Mom had gotten the news out of me a few weeks before and was doing a very good job of keeping the secret. So we talked to my mom and sis for a while then came home. In the car, Jesse had told me that he wanted my help with a story he had been working on. When we got home I started doing laundry and Jesse got his story, sat down and began to read. After the first paragraph, I quickly stopped what I was doing and paid extra close attention as I realized that THIS WAS IT. Jesse read the wonderful story he had written about our journey together, got down on one knee and held out my beautiful ring. Of course, I said YES!!!!

So, our plan is to have over a year long engagement because of all of the life transitions that are coming with my graduation in May. We will be getting married June 18, 2011.
